NORWALK, Ohio -- The media serves as a window through which we observe our community. Conversely, it is the window through which our community observes us.
The Media of the Year award is presented to an organization providing outstanding coverage of Summit Motorsports Park and the accomplishments of our racers.
The 2012 Media of the Year set a standard of professionalism and enthusiasm for the sport of drag racing emulated by their peers and admired by those they served.
True partners in every sense, this duo shared their work and life, with laughter, love and dedication.
To follow a dream in racing and journalism, they created a public relations company, J2 Racing, in 1996, and marketed motorsports for sixteen years.
Often the first to arrive at the track and the last to leave, they loved deeply their team members and colleagues.
Most recently, our Media of the Year represented Team Summit, including NHRA Pro Stock champions Greg Anderson and Jason Line, Rob Downing, and team owner Ken Black.
In the past, many other high profile racing teams, including Warren and Kurt Johnson, received and benefitted from the detailed care exemplified by this couple.
Unfortunately, on October 22, Multiple Myeloma claimed the life of Jon Knapp at age fifty-eight, leaving his wife, Joanne, to carry on.
Even while battling cancer, Jon and Joanne arrived at Summit Motorsports Park with friendly greetings and warm handshakes. Jon never complained. Through the illness he remained immersed in the love of his wife, and passion for his work. His dedication continues to inspire us.
Ladies and gentlemen, your 2012 Summit Motorsports Park Media of the Year is Jon and Joanne Knapp, J2 Racing. Here to accept the award on behalf of Joanne is close friend Jim Greenleaf, motorsports and events manager for Summit Racing Equipment.
