Akron Native Steve Oswald Wins Rookie of the Year

Akron Native Steve Oswald took home the prestigious honor of Rookie of the Year at Norwalk Raceway Park’s thirty second annual Bar’s Leaks Awards Banquet.  The award was based on his performance this year; his first season in Norwalk’s points program.

Steve Oswald was one driver in a record number of drivers competing in Modified this season.  In just six points meets, Steve amassed a record of 18 round wins; an average of three points each event.

Bill Bader Sr., former president of the International Hot Rod Association, put the award in perspective.  “Steve ran only half the points meets this year,” Bader said to an enthusiastic audience.  “If he had run all twelve or thirteen and continued his successful average, we may very well be introducing the Rookie of the Year who is also a Champion.  I have no doubt this young man will enjoy the view from the head table very soon.”
