Current License Racers Can Breathe A Little Easier
Feb 27, 2007
Since the announcement that Summit Motorsports Park was making the switch to NHRA, racers have been asking if it will be necessary to go through the entire NHRA licensing procedure. For some, the answer is "no", you won't have to go through the entire process. A racer with a current license from IHRA, AHDRA, AMA/ProStar or VRA/Goodguys, the switchover to NHRA is streamlined and easy.
For any current license holder, the first step is to schedule a physical and have your doctor fill out the NHRA medical certificate. The certificate form can be downloaded from our website, www.summitmotorsportspark.com/competition/forms, or you can call the office at 419-668-5555 and we will send the form to you. Only the original signed medical form will be accepted, and all areas of the form must be filled out. The medical form must be completed before any of the remaining paperwork can be submitted. In addition to the medical certificate, you will need two (2) full-pass time slips in the class for which you are seeking the NHRA license. The time slips must be dated within the past twelve months and from Summit Motorsports Park. Time slips from any side-by-side time trails or eliminations will be accepted.
With the signed medical certificate, time slips, and current license in hand, step number two will be a drive to Summit Motorsports Park. We have "crossover" application forms here in the office. Nettie, Pete or Bill must sign the form as NHRA member track representatives, so your personal appearance will be required. A current licensed NHRA driver or rider in your class must also sign the crossover application. The only exception to this process will be drivers or riders under 18 years of age. If you are between the ages of 16 and 18, you will also be required to fill out the NHRA Minor Waiver form (MS-N), and include this form with your application.
As you can see, this process is considerably simpler and easier than the full licensing procedure. The racing season is fast approaching; so don't hesitate to get started. We want to see everybody back in the staging lanes this season without any transition headaches, and an early start to the crossover application will help that happen.
