The last time we saw Tom Kempf’s 2002 Firehawk, it was flying down track in Precision Turbo & Engine Outlaw 10.5 at the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels at Summit Motorsports Park in 2016, but this weekend, he has it shined up to show at the Detroit Autorama at Cobo Center.
Kempf tells us that the LaFontaine Performance Center-backed car still features his tried-and-true Billy Briggs Racing Engines-built 454 cubic-inch LS engine on a Dart billet block fronted by twin 91mm Precision Pro Mod turbos, but he has designed a new billet intake manifold that will soon sit atop the powerplant, and the Commerce Township, Michigan-based driver has his sights set on stepping up from 4.0s to 3s in the car rolling on Mickey Thompson slicks.
Catch Kempf in action, among other places, at this year’s Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, Sept. 14-17 at Summit Motorsports Park, 1300 State Route 18, Norwalk, Ohio.
