Despite earning the Edelbrock Pro championship in his 1978 Firebird last year at Summit Motorsports Park, Mike O’Rourke, Sr. sold the car to his son and fellow racer, Mike O’Rourke, Jr., and purchased a 1991 Camaro from All Motor competitor Bob Harvey.
Its muscle comes from a 555ci big-block Chevy which O’Rourke, Sr. assembled, and a Fleenor Racing Transmissions-built Powerglide helps put the power to the pavement.
O’Rourke ripped off a 9.12 at 149 mph in his first test hit today at the 36th Annual Spring Warm-Up at Summit Motorsports Park, and while his first observation was that this car doesn’t hang the hoops like his other car did, we suspect it will once he takes care of the converter swap he’s planning and gets dialed in.
Catch O’Rourke and other Summit Motorsports Park drivers and riders at the first Edelbrock Super Series race of the season on April 22 at Summit Motorsports Park.
