NORWALK, Ohio – Dueling rumbles in the burnout box prime the adrenaline.
A glance sets the challenge: “Let’s see what you’ve got.”
The Prestolite Performance group of companies -- including Mr. Gasket, Accel Ignition, Lakewood Suspension, Mallory Ignition, and Hayes Clutches – thrills to a race side-by-side with their customers.
“We’re an automotive aftermarket company who specializes in performance products,” said Jill Hepp, marketing manager at Prestolite Performance LLC. “We want your car to go faster, better”
Prestolite Performance proves it through official, title, class, contingency and banquet sponsorship in the Mr. Gasket $53,100 Super Series at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.
“First of all, it’s a fantastic facility that’s right in our own back yard,” Jill Hepp said. “We wanted to participate with local racers in the community, especially since it is so close to us.”
The company’s high-speed niche reflects the era of its beginnings.
Next year Mr. Gasket celebrates a 50-year anniversary of the ingenuity of founder Joe Hrudka.
A racer using his Chevy as a drag racing car, Joe Hrudka saw a need for gaskets and fasteners that could withstand extreme engine temperatures, Jill Hepp said.
More recent Prestolite Performance employees -- such as Todd Lauffer, who was inducted into the Summit Motorsports Park Hall of Fame -- follow Joe Hrudka’s smokey burnout trail.
Through the half century, Prestolite Performance expanded into other racing innovations, and now includes performance parts for Ford Mustangs, Chevys, and Mopars, in late and early models, said Jill Hepp.
Watch for Prestolite Performance tents at events such as the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services, and the High School Nationals, among others, said Jill Hepp. Talk about your racing needs with professionals who know the ways of the track.

Sometimes the Prestolite Performance group heads to Summit Motorsports Park for fun.
“In 2011 we had a company day and picnic with employees and families,” Jill Hepp said. “We watched the Mr. Gasket Super Series. For a segment our employees raced their cars down the track.
“One of our employees raced a smart car down the track,” Jill Hepp said. “I think it went a total of 50 mph. On the whole the employees enjoyed it. It gave them a chance to see what they do in action, and get a better understanding of what they are creating parts for.”
