Mike Downs doesn’t merely guide the ship at Trick Flow Specialties—he lives and breathes the horsepower his company’s products help make.
“I love anything that goes fast!” Downs said. “I am an avid drag racing fan and have raced both cars and motorcycles. I currently own a 1990 Mustang, but my racing is on hold while I serve as crew chief for my daughter, Allyson, who is the 2013 Junior Dragster Novice class champion at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park.”
Downs graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He spent 23 years in Automotive OEM manufacturing with companies like Honda of America and Robert Bosch Corporation. At Robert Bosch, he started as a Quality Engineer and worked up to Operations Management before leaving for Trick Flow Specialties in April 2011.
As manager, Downs oversees manufacturing of Trick Flow products as well as future product development. Trick Flow has its own in-house engineering team, a pattern-making department, and extensive CNC-machining capability. The company also has its own cylinder head flow benches and two Superflow engine dynos for development work.
“My personal goal is to continue to grow the Trick Flow brand and make it a household name in the street performance and racing markets,” Downs explained. “We have everything in place—great products, a talented team, and technology—to do just that.”
Downs’ family includes wife Brenda, son Jarrod, and daughter Allyson.
