Nearly two-thousand street-rodders shined and showed their old-school cool during the 13th Annual Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise at Summit Motorsports Park on July 18-20, 2014.
The action-packed event featured nostalgia drag-racing, rock-and-roll revue act the Van-Dells, a sock-hop, vintage fashion show, flame-throwing, door prizes and fireworks, which inspired a record-setting 1,002 street-rodders to register their 1972 and older street-rods for next year's event, which is July 17-19, 2015.
That number improves upon the 498 drivers who registered in advance at last year's event, and for the $20 they paid until the deadline at 11:59 p.m. on July 20, 2014, they received two tickets for a barbecued meal of chicken and pulled-pork as well as side dishes and refreshments at next year's event.
Now, between street-rods which are already registered and those to be registered, organizers are optimistic about securing 2,000 at next year's event.
"The 13th Annual Wanda AkzoNobel Blue Suede Cruise was by far our best effort in the event's history," said an enthusiastic Bill Bader, Jr., president of Summit Motorsports Park. "Despite rain on Saturday, we received an overwhelmingly positive response. We're on our way to building one of the most popular street-rod shows east of the Mississippi."
