The Chrysler Corporation was mainly known as the company that made family cars and taxi cabs. These stoic boring 4-door beauties were pretty much all pushed down the highway by a bullet proof 318 ci engine that almost always outlasted the bodies. Then along came the HEMI!  Chrysler became identified primarily by trademarking the "Hemi" name and then using it extensively in their advertising campaigns beginning in the 1960s. Chrysler has produced three generations of such engines: the first (the Chrysler Fire Power engine) in the 1950s, the second (the 426 Hemi), developed for NASCAR in 1964 and produced through the early 1970s, and finally the "new HEMI" in the early 2000s. The 426 hemispherical engine is a popular power plant for drag racing, funny cars and muscle cars. It is regarded as the best muscle car engine, so using the best engine design for horsepower makes sense.  It is one of the most important innovations in automotive history. Car and Driver wrote that it is unquestionable the king of the muscle cars, both for its speed and for its defiance. The 426 Hemi is considered one of the finest engines ever produced.

The question than is, where do you see these huge power plants today? The answer would be to go to Summit Motorsports Park for the Monster Mopar WeekendJuly 27-29, 2018 . This will be the largest Mopar Drag Race in the Midwest.
