Some truly special people come through the gates of Summit Motorsports Park each year.
Whether they are there as racers or race fans, supporters or staff, they leave a lovely and lasting impression on us, and we appreciate all of them.
Frequently, one of them stands out and shines, and in 2022, Billy Carroll, Contingency Coordinator for the Edelbrock Group, did just that.
Billy first made his way into our hearts back in 2021, when he came to Summit Motorsports Park to have a meeting with Bobbie Bader to discuss sponsorship. It happened to be the day before the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals, one of the park’s biggest events of the year.
It wasn’t a usual meeting, as Bobbie was walking around the entire facility to ensure that everything was in place for the event, but that was fine with Billy. Not only did he walk with her, he helped her, from the moment he arrived at 4 p.m. until the moment he left at 11 p.m.
While dinner was supposed to be part of the meeting, Billy declined so that he could continue helping Bobbie.
That day, it was crystal clear that Billy cares about racers and race fans, and wants to do whatever he can to ensure racetracks can carry on, both personally as well as professionally through sponsorship secured from the Edelbrock Group.
He went above and beyond that day, and he has gone above and beyond every day since then.
Billy has taken it upon himself to arrive before races begin and stay until races end, and he has helped our team set up for races and tear down after races. He has served food to our racers, and he has stood in the winner’s circle with them to celebrate their victory. We have even spotted him picking up trash to keep America’s Racetrack clean for all of our guests.
For all of those reasons and many more, we adore, Billy, and honored him with the Appreciation Award at the Edelbrock Banquet of Champions presented by Lincoln Electric, Jan. 28, 2023 at Sawmill Creek Resort in Huron, Ohio.
