Schmidt Sails to Win in Super 64 presented by McIlvain Race Cars

After giving it everything they have all season long, racers currently in the top sixteen in points in Edelbrock Super Pro, Edelbrock Pro, Wiseco/Cycle Tech Super Bike and Edelbrock Sportsman Delivered on Time by TFC Transportation rumbled on the race track for the Super 64 presented by McIlvain Race Cars runoff on Friday, Aug. 11, 2017 at Summit Motorsports Park.

The prize they had their eyes on was a share of $20,300, with $10,000 for the winner, $1,500 for the runner-up, $1,000 for semifinalists, $500 for quarterfinalists, $200 for eighths, $100 for sixteenths and $50 for thirty-seconds.

In Edelbrock Super Pro, where delay boxes are the deal, Steven Schmidt piloted his American dragster to a 7.26 on his 7.26 dial to claim the victory over Randy Scheueur, Jr., who turned on the red light and coasted down track in his American dragster.

Bottom-bulb racing was tight in Edelbrock Pro, where Victor Ellinger dipped under his dial with a 9.94 on a 9.95, but wrangled up the win over Lee Newmeyer, who also dipped under his dial in his Vega with a 10.38 on a 10.39.

Wiseco/Cycle Tech Super Bike saw Craig Adams ride his Suzuki to a 7.87 on his 7.85 dial to defeat Rick Poole, who rode his Suzuki to an 8.43 on a 8.41 dial.

The Edelbrock Sportsman Delivered on Time by TFC Transportation final pitted Nick Hastings and his Mustang against Dale Boyer and his T-Bird, and when it was all said and done, multi-time winner Hastings hustled to the win with a 12.20 on his 12.18 dial while Boyer posted a 12.54 on his 12.53 dial.

Schmidt and Hastings then hightailed it to the runoff, where each had an army of friends and fans gathered behind them on the starting line, and while both were close on the tree, Schmidt secured the win with a 7.27 on his 7.26 while Hastings dipped under with a 12.14 on a 12.15.

Congratulations to Schmidt, and to all of the racers who took part in the Super 64 presented by McIlvain Race Cars and made the eve of the 40th Annual Kelly Services Night Under Fire even more memorable.
