Quick and Fast Qualifying at Shakedown

Blue skies, balmy temperatures and boisterous racing were in the ring for both days of qualifying at the Summit Racing Equipment Shakedown at the Summit presented by Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels, Sept. 15-16 at Summit Motorsports Park.

Leading their fellow racers in their fields were Melanie Salemi, who ripped off a 5.71 in her 1968 Firebird in the pulse-pounding Pro Line Racing Pro Mod, and John Carinci, who cruised to a 4.02 in his 2004 Corvette in Precision Turbo & Engine Outlaw 10.5.

In Wiseco Performance Products X275, Rich Bruder, one half of the famous Bruder Brothers, drove to a 4.39 in the family Mustang, and Speedwire Systems Radial vs. The World saw Mark Micke motor Jason Carter’s 1978 Malibu to a 3.95.

In Callies Performance Products Pro Street, where 26 cars were attempting to qualify for the 16-car field, John Clement pushed his 1993 Mustang to a 4.26, and in Team Z Motorsports Ultra Street, track prep expert Tyler Crossnoe captured a 4.75 in his Mustang.

Holbrook Racing Engines Top Sportsman saw Mick Snyder drive his 1963 Corvette to a 6.11 and 230 mph, while Art Cioffi was the winner of $1,000 in the Trick Flow Specialties Open Comp 8.50 Shootout, which took place during qualifying, and John Stanley drove his 2015 Cadillac to a 5.686 to win $5,000 in the G-Force Race Cars and Resolution Racing Services, Inc.  Money Shot.

The chase to the winner’s circle has begun, today, Sept. 16. If you can’t catch it in person, catch it via a live speed offered by SpeedVideo.
