NORWALK, Ohio – Have you chosen your favorite National Hot Rod Association drivers?
With race results available on www.NHRA.com, now is a great time to click on points/stats and then Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, and get acquainted with the points scorings.
Drivers receive points for each round win, for placement during qualifying, and for winning an event. They lose points if their car oils down a track and delays a race for cleanup. For a schedule of points, click here.
Check out Funny Car driver Courtney Force in the unofficial final points standings. With 124 points, Courtney leads the Funny Car category by 30 points over number 2 Ron Capps, who she defeated in the final round.
Courtney qualified number 1 on Saturday, too, so she received extra points.
Courtney’s father, 15-time Funny Car World Champion John Force, won the season-opening Pomona event a year ago. On the last race of the season in 2012, Courtney Force lost in the final round. So she said this time she finished the job.
In Top Fuel, Tony Schumacher qualified number 1, but lost to Shawn Langdon in the final round. So Shawn Langdon leads the class by 10 points at 116, compared to Tony Schumacher’s 106.
Pro Stock competition lifted Vincent Nobile, a college student who races, to the win. Vincent Nobile hauled home 118 points for his weekend work, which is 23 more points than second place Jeg Coughlin at 95 points.
Mike Edwards qualified number 1 in Pro Stock, but ended up with a rough day on Sunday and 45 points for the weekend.
The Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., is Courtney Force’s home track. Courtney Force said during NHRA media interviews that she felt excited to win in front of all of her friends and family.
Shawn Langdon said he raced Junior Dragsters in Pomona, which is his home track, too. When he drove the Al-Anabi Top Fuel dragster through the tunnel and looked out at the stands full of fans, he remembered his early races and boyhood dreams of racing Top Fuel.
As a kid Shawn Langdon collected Tony Schumacher’s autograph; now he enjoys racing him, Shawn Langdon said.
