Thunder in the Streets celebrates fifty years of fun on Thursday, August 8, 2013.
NORWALK, Ohio – Thunder in the Streets made memories for local families.
Downtown Norwalk filled with cool race cars and friendly, relaxed drivers chatting, signing autographs, and posing for photos with star-struck youngsters...and parents!
A teenage girl fell into a crush on a cute 18-year-old Top Fuel driver. She never washed that T-shirt he signed. And her mom's still in shock that his mom would let him drive 300 mph.
And whatever happened to The Cool Bus, that wheelstander a kindergarten student dreamed of riding every day?
Since 2013 marks the Golden Anniversary of Summit Motorsports Park and fifty years of fun in Norwalk, Ohio, we're celebrating in the streets an old fashioned way – with Thunder in the Streets!
The activities begin at noon on Thursday, August 8, 2013 on Main Street in Norwalk, with two dozen professional and sportsman race teams on display. Go ahead, ask them what it feels like to launch off a green light and rocket down a dragstrip.
Of course we'll have fair food, and family activities all day!
In the old days, Bill Bader Sr. and his wife, Deb, danced in the streets to a popular local band each year. And everybody joined them!
This year, Jersey performs live at 7 p.m. on the main stage. Check them out!
Also as a tradition, Thunder in the Streets previews a huge event. Our official 2013 Golden Anniversary celebration is on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services at Summit Motorsports Park.
There's only one Golden Anniversary Night Under Fire. This event gathers elements from all of them into one spectacular show.
Were you there when Bob Motz blasted his Jet Kenworth and accidentally burned down the billboard?
This year the Bader Family Signature Fireworks at the Auto Plus Night Under Fire presented by Kelly Services shower the night with our biggest fire show ever! You know what those fireworks are for: Sit back in your grandstand seat, pull your loved ones close and enjoy the view!
Bring your friends, family and memories and celebrate with us!
As usual, the underlying motivation for this Thunder in the Streets is a great big “Thank You!”
Thank you to all of our guests who visited Summit Motorsports Park during these fifty years of fun. We appreciate you! Bring your families Thursday to Main Street in Norwalk for a relaxing afternoon and evening at Thunder in the Streets, and have a marvelous time!
