In 1985, an idea was born: $1 Ice Cream at Norwalk.

No one could have known that a modest offer of $1 Ice Cream would explode into a cultural phenomenon, at least within the motorsports community.

That was 38 years ago!

While the promotion has been ultra-successful, it has not been without its flaws. Long lines, lack of ice cream being available for sale on both sides of the property and serving “soft” or melted ice cream have all been problematic.

And while ice cream was never meant to be a profit center, it was not meant to become a $91,000.00 losing proposition either.

For the last 15 years, we have flirted with the idea of increasing the price of our ice cream. Product cost increases over the years, along with the numerous challenges of living in a post-COVID era, have made serving ice cream for $1 impossible. Whenever Dad and I discussed increasing the price of ice cream, we would ultimately decide to “kick the can” down the road for another year, hoping for a miracle, I guess, and always knowing the day would come to make a change.

2023 is going to be that year.

Beginning this race season, we will be moving to selling Velvet Ice Cream Pints in the following flavors: Original Vanilla, Butter Pecan & Cashew, Dutch Chocolate, Buckeye Classic, Cookies 'N Cream, Moose Tracks and Raspberry Fudge Cordial.

And the price will be $3 per pint.

Please know that I did not arrive at this conclusion easily. It’s an impossible situation.

Also please know how much it has meant to us through the years to see you and your families and friends smiling as you eat your ice cream at Summit Motorsports Park, and how you made it a tradition to get some with each and every visit. It is our sincere hope that you understand, and even come to embrace, this very necessary change, and help us in making a new tradition.
